Reynobond® with KEVLAR® Composite Material Provides Hurricane Protection
In 2012 alone, severe weather systems wreaked havoc across the U.S., leaving over $1.6 billion of damaged structures in their wake. For fabricators working in storm-prone regions, requests for cladding materials with the strength to weather these storms are greater than ever. Reynobond® with KEVLAR® composite material boasts the light weight of traditional Reynobond® panels and the impact-resistant strength of DuPont KEVLAR® material, providing the highest caliber of protection on the market. The panels are five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis and is the only standalone composite material that meets the stringent requirements of the Miami-Dade County Building Code.
KEVLAR
In this application, the KEVLAR® material provides superior impact resistance, similar to the way it works as a protective barrier around jet turbine blades and luggage containers for aircraft to help shield passengers from flying debris should an explosion occur. Reynobond® with KEVLAR®panels are engineered to withstand the impact of a 9-pound, 2 x 4 timber traveling at 50 feet per second. They can be rolled, routed, drilled and fabricated to meet the most complex design specifications, such as angles and curves, while offering the flat, smooth and consistent surface of composite material. And, Reynobond® with KEVLAR® panels can be installed using traditional wet-seal or dry-joint rainscreen systems; rout-and-return, wet silicone-sealed systems; or over structural steel studs without a heavy substrate while still meeting the Miami-Dade County Hurricane Building Code for large-missile impacts over the entire surface of a building (NOA #11-1102).
Reynobond® with KEVLAR® panels provide the same durability and versatility as traditional Reynobond® composite material and is available in the same extensive color palette. The initial costs to fabricate and install Reynobond® with KEVLAR® panels are in line with those of traditional cladding materials. For complete building protection, specify traditional Reynobond® ACM (NOA #10-1118.05) for all building faces over 30 feet high.
